Turn-Key Large Site Development

We have years of success as a grading contractor for property owners. We can handle the entire project from beginning to end, including mass and fine grading, erosion control, utilities, and paving.

Contract Mass & Fine Grading

Over the years, we’ve built a strong reputation and long-term relationships with some of the largest general contractors in the construction industry. As such, we’ve been frequently called on to conduct mass and fine grading for countless sites and highways. We work with careful attention to detail to develop the final grade with tight tolerances.

Basin Conversion

We’ve mastered the art of basin conversion (wet and dry ponds, sand filters). This involves converting ponds from the erosion control stage to the final grading stage.

S.M. Smith is committed to ensuring that we have the latest equipment and technology available—we don’t cut corners.

In addition to our fleet of heavy equipment, each crew is equipped with Trimble Site Positioning GPS. We also fly over each site using propeller aerial mapping to continually monitor the progress of each project. This allows us to grade the exact designs and tolerances our customers require.

In addition to our investment in state-of-the-art equipment, we’re committed to ensuring we have a knowledgeable and experienced grading team. Our team consists of 7 full grading crews, 2 fine grading crews, and 2 basin conversion crews.

Every new team member must undergo a comprehensive equipment and safety training schedule before they step foot on their first project. All of our foremen are CPR certified and they hold weekly safety meetings with their crews on each job site. This not only ensures that our team understands the potential safety concerns of each site, but that each return home safe and well every night.
